Tautai fa'atonutonu folau – Launch of the MWC Pacific Strategy
6 March 2026
The Maurice Wilkins Centre leadership team was proud to be joined recently by many of our Pacific biomedical researchers as well as members of the MWC and Pacific communities at the 2nd Pacific Peoples Fono in the Community to launch the MWC Pacific Strategy 'Tautai fa'atonutonu folau - Take the lead, set the course',

The vision of the MWC Pacific Strategy is: Equipping Pacific leadership, embracing inclusivity, and expanding participation to advance Pacific Peoples representation and excellence in biomedical sciences and STEM innovation.
Following the launch of 'Tautai fa'atonutonu folau' the Fono featured a keynote address from Professor Nikki Moreland (Principal Investigator, MWC & Rapua Te Mea Ngaro Ka Tau) entitled 'Innovative efforts to beat Strep A and Rheumatic Fever in Aotearoa and beyond'. Research being done by several MWC Pacific biomedical researchers was then showcased alongside Talanoa sessions with early career Pacific researchers that highlighted their motivation to do postgraduate research and some of the challenges.
The MWC would like to give special thanks to The Cause Collective for hosting and contributing to the success of the Fono. The Cause Collective is a Pacific-led community organisation that is setting out to transform the way in which community and public services are experienced by individuals, families and whole communities.
