Maurice Wilkins Centre Prize for Chemical Science

Congratulations to Dr Brendon Gill (Fonterra) for being awarded the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry's Maurice Wilkins Centre Prize for Chemical Science.

 

 

Dr Brendon Gill is a Principal Research Scientist for Fonterra based at the Nutritionals laboratory at Waitoa and is highly regarded within the nutritional analytical community in New Zealand and internationally. He has developed numerous analytical methods to quantitate micronutrients and milk proteins and four of these have been adopted as international standards. Dr Gill’s innovations in this field have had significant positive effects on dairy manufacturing processes, knowledge about the quality and safety of infant formulas, and the dairy export industry of New Zealand. 

Dr Gill represents the New Zealand dairy industry as a member of the International Standards Organisation vitamins working group, he is a Fellow of AOAC International (association of analytical science professionals dedicated to advance food safety and product integrity) is the current chair of the Official Methods Board, and has previously held a number of other leadership roles within the AOAC. Dr Gill has previously served on the committee for the NZIC Waikato Branch and volunteered considerable time and effort to develop the institute’s website. He has previously been awarded the Douglas Pharmaceuticals Prize for Industrial and Applied Chemistry and the Easterfield Medal.
