Getting New Zealand's only COVID-19 lab up and running

10 June 2020

While most of the country was in lockdown, a small team led by MWC investigators Professor Miguel Quiñones-Mateu and Associate Professor James Ussher were in their University of Otago lab working to isolate the COVID-19 virus from New Zealand patient samples.

The lab became the first in the country to successfully grow the virus.

Professor Quiñones-Mateu (pictured) has talked about the experience of contributing to the fight against COVID-19 in an article 'A novel enemy: Outflanking the pathogen behind Covid-19,' published on the Stuff website.
