Dr Natalie Netzler

Dr Natalie Netzler is a Māori (Ngāti Ruanui, Ngāti Hauā) and NZ-born Sāmoan (Moto’otua, Falealili) Senior Lecturer in virology and immunology. She is the current PC3 Facility Director at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland. Her research focuses on developing broad-spectrum antivirals to combat viral infections from both clinical and traditional medicine pathways. She collaborates with Māori and Pacific communities and organisations to look at rongoā Māori and traditional Samoan medicines as antiviral medicines to fight against viral diseases including COVID, influenza and RSV.


Some of her recent work funded by the Maurice Wilkins Centre involves looking at the unique genetic adaptations of Māori and Pacific populations and our immune responses to viruses.
