Dr Kimiora Henare (Ngāti Haua, Te Rarawa, Te Aupōuri) is a Senior Research Fellow with an active research focus on improving efficacy and equitable access of precision medicine and immunotherapy. In the lab, he focuses on cancer immunology and the tumour microenvironment within the medicine discovery pipeline and tikanga-led laboratory practices. Translationally, he contributes to a range of clinical genomics and immunotherapy projects focusing on improving whānau Māori access and outcomes.
Nationally, Dr Henare serves as a co-convenor and faculty member for the Summer internship for Indigenous Peoples in Genomics (SING) Aotearoa, as the Pae Rangahau (Research working group) lead for Hei Āhuru Mōwai - Māori Cancer Leadership Aotearoa, and is the founding organiser and co-chair (alongside Dr George Laking) of He Akoranga Whakahoungia within the New Zealand Society for Oncology.
Kimiora is involved in many cancer immunology projects funded by the Maurice Wilkins Centre, providing his expertise in tumour immunology and visualisation technologies.
