Dr Phillip Wilcox (Ngāti Rākaipāka) is a academic staff member in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Otago. His areas of research interest are quantitative genetics, applied genomics, breeding, medical genetics and Māori engagement.

Some of his recent work funded by the Maurice Wilkins Centre includes the Metabolic Health Flagship project, looking at new ways to conduct genetic research with small sample sizes to overcome the limitations of conventional statistical models and investigate alternatives to estimating genome-wide disease risk for indigenous populations. He also co-supervises MWC-funded postgraduate students.
