Professor Mark Hampton completed his PhD at the University of Otago, then held postdoctoral positions at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and Harvard Medical School before returning to the Christchurch campus of the University of Otago. He currently leads the Mātai Hāora - Centre for Redox Biology and Medicine. Mark’s research focuses on the impact of oxidative stress on signalling pathways in cells. Current projects include investigations of how disruption of redox homeostasis can promote the killing of cancer cells and pathogenic microbes, and how oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are associated with the biological processes underlying human ageing.
