Professor Sally McCormick

Sally McCormick is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry in the School of Biomedical Sciences at Otago University and a Fellow of the Faculty of Science, RCPA (Royal College of Pathologists, Australia). She is a former Head of Department and former Director of the Biomedical Sciences programme. She performed her PhD studies at the Christchurch School of Medicine and postdoctoral studies at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease in San Francisco. Her research focuses on the biochemical and genetic regulation of lipid metabolism, the role of lipoproteins as risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and the effects of commonly prescribed drugs on lipid metabolism. She has a special interest in the biology of the cardiovascular risk factor, lipoprotein(a) and is on the International Editorial Board for Lp(a) education and research. Her laboratory uses a range of biochemical, genetic and cell biology techniques including proteomics, metabolomics, next generation and nanopore sequencing and confocal imaging in cell models, animal models and human samples.
