Professor Margaret Brimble receives IUPAC Service Award

Distinguished Professor Margaret Brimble, a Principal Investigator at the Maurice Wilkins Centre and Director of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Auckland, received an Appreciation of Service Award during the recent International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) 2017 Conference in São Paulo, Brazil.
The award recognises Professor Brimble’s outstanding service to IUPAC and the advancement of chemistry worldwide.
Professor Brimble has recently served as President of the IUPAC’s Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry Division (III), and was delighted to receive this latest award.
“This award was particularly exciting for me and for the people in the Maurice Wilkins Centre,” she said. “It shows that chemists here in New Zealand are contributing to a big international organisation like IUPAC and to advancing chemistry worldwide.”
The award adds to Professor Brimble's impressive array of international awards, that includes a L'Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science Asia-Pacific Laureate in Materials Science.
MWC Director, Professor Rod Dunbar, says the award underscores Professor Brimble's stellar international reputation.
“Importantly, this award recognises Margaret’s accomplished leadership within a major international scientific organisation, as well as her scientific achievements,” he said. “It's very important for the future of New Zealand’s science to have leaders such as Margaret contributing so strongly to these international science organisations.”
