Leadership Award for Centre investigator

18 July 2016

Congratulations to Maurice Wilkins Centre Associate Investigator Dr Siouxsie Wiles who was named a Blake Leader 2016 from the Sir Peter Blake Trust on July 1.

Dr Wiles is a microbiologist who uses bioluminescence (the production of light by living organisms) to study infectious diseases. Her research group at the Bioluminescent Superbugs Lab at the University of Auckland creates glow-in-the-dark bacteria in order to better understand how to prevent and fight diseases such as tuberculosis and hospital superbugs.

Dr Wiles frequently comments in the media and is a prolific blogger. She has also made a number of popular aminations that introduce the public to the scientific uses of bioluminescence.

The Blake Leader Award is presented to up to six mid-career leaders each year. It recognises inspirational leaders who have determination, a will to succeed and a belief in achieving extraordinary things.
